Summer Days…Ponies, Tie Dye, and Balloon Meltdowns

July 26, 2015 by Brielle

Summer lovin’ had me a blast. Summer lovin’ happened so fast. Really??? Did this summer really fly by? Sometimes I think so, sometimes I think NO.

Sisters

Really, I don’t know much of what I’m thinking these days. These past 6 weeks have been quite a blur camping out at my parents’ house waiting for our stuff to arrive in Hawaii. Oh, and don’t get me started on that fiasco. We just found out that our stuff is STILL sitting at the Los Angeles port waiting to be packed into a shipping container, which will apparently not be available for at least another week.

SAY WHAT?!

So basically, let me sum this up, we will be living in Hawaii out of suitcases with no furniture, kitchen appliances/utensils, clothes, blankets, towels, you name it for probably an entire month. A MONTH!

Deep breaths. In light of this not so convenient information, I have decided to make a choice.

I choose to embrace this adventure. Otherwise, it seems as though my only other option is to sit down and cry.

On a happier note, my kids have had the BEST six weeks of their short little vivacious lives here in Utah. Day after day AFTER DAY is just one adventure after another. From museums to farms to parades to swimming pools, my children have basically been living in one big oversized theme park called “Grandma and Grandpa SpoilYouRottenVille”.

Grandparents

It’s not uncommon for my kiddos to have 3-4 activities scheduled for just ONE DAY. How does one have the energy??? All I want to do is take one long much needed nap. Seriously, I could probably sleep for an entire day.

But…then I would miss out on all of this cuteness. And really, who could ever do that?!

So without further ado, I present to you “A Day in the Lives of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum”

riding ponies

First off, Emry is obsessed with riding ponies. It’s a good thing we purchased a Thanksgiving Point membership so we could ride the ponies over and over again. They’ve got a great little Farm Country set up where you can ride a tractor, feed the animals, and, of course, ride the ponies. Plus the membership gets you into the beautiful gardens as well as the Museum of Curiosity and Dinosaur Museum, along with a few other events throughout the year.

After an entire day at Thanksgiving Point we headed over to Grandma Kaye and Grandpa Cal’s house. To say that there is never a lack of activities over there would be quite an understatement.

tie dyingtie dying help

Immediately following a delicious dinner (as always), we were whisked away to the backyard for a full on tie-dying party, latex gloves and all. Braelyn was super into it, insisting on doing all the dying herself. That was until she became frustrated with the colors bleeding all over the place. Then superdad stepped in and was extremely stoked (sarcasm) to lend a helping hand. Hehe!

tie dying shirts popping gloves

Emry, on the other hand, was hit and miss with the majority of her focus on blowing up and trying to pop the latex gloves. This popping process was not at all successful like she had hoped and ended with a drawn out, full blown terrible two’s meltdown.

blowing balloons balloons make me sad

After the crafting portion of the evening was over, we blew up balloons and tossed them around the yard. The girls giggled and pranced around the lawn like little divas…until one got hurt, which again ended in another overly exhausted influenced meltdown. I’ve never seen a sadder child holding a balloon. SAD and BALLOON seems like quite the oxymoron to me!

Puppet show and face paint

Added to this already lengthy list of festivities was the spurt of the moment puppet show that was performed by Ben and the girls, the disastrous gingerbread house decorating, and face painting. FACE PAINTING!

PHEW!

Oh, and who can forget the hip-hop show the girls put on?! Now that was stellar!

I’m telling you, this day was just one of many many similar days over the past month and a half. I’m lucky I still have some of my sanity intact.

But in all seriousness, I am truly grateful for the time we were able to spend with both families this summer before making our monumental move to Hawaii. My girls will greatly miss the days they have spend with their grandparents. They have been overly generous with their time, money, love, and support and I only hope to somewhat repay them someday, somehow.

Crazy Girls

My crazies sure hit the jack-pot in the grandparent arena. They have it all and MORE!
