Gluten Free Reindeer Feed

A super simple and super fun holiday mix with this Gluten Free Reindeer Feed. Can it be any more exciting than to eat out of Rudolf’s head???

Okay, don’t laugh. Okay laugh. I’m laughing. I’m sitting here thinking, “Am I really posting this??? Is this even a recipe?!”

I don’t know. You tell me.

I didn’t bake anything.

I didn’t cook anything.

I didn’t even really mix anything besides a couple of turns of the spoon.

But I did use a glue gun…

These little snack cups were just too cute not to post. Even though I have a bunch of holiday recipes I’m trying to post before Christmas, these deserve a quick spot up on the blog.

But fair warning; don’t judge the pictures. I took a quick snapshot of these before I rushed out to Braelyn’s holiday party.

I kind of forgot that I signed up months ago to help out with Braelyn’s Christmas party. The same thing happened in October for her Halloween party. Of course I signed up to be in charge of snacks for both occasions.

So last night as I was once again scrambing together ideas for a fun, cute, and semi-healthy treat for the kids, the only thing I could think of was to go look in my craft bin.

Craft bin?!

Haha! If you even want to call it that. Basically it’s a hodge podge of random items that have accumulated over the past 10 years. Odds and ends that I’ve had to buy for various projects here and there. If you don’t already know, I HATE crafting. Like hate it with a passion.

But, as I was looking through my crap items, I noticed googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and fuzz balls. I knew I had some clear plastic cups left over from the October party that I helped with.

Hmmm…HELLO RUDOLF!!!

And that’s how this Gluten Free Reindeer Feed came to life, just like Rudolf did with that magical hat. Oh wait, that’s Frosty. Whatever.

The best part about this Chex mix reindeer feed is that I didn’t have to go to the store for anything. I had all the ingredients on hand. You can basically improvise with anything.

Use whatever kind of baking chips you have. Peanut butter, white chocolate, milk chocolate, butterscotch, cinnamon, you name it.

Don’t have Craisins? Use dried cherries or raisins.

Out of Corn Chex or Cheerios? You can substitute with other gluten free cereals like Kix or Crispix.

Some other options of add-ins are gluten free pretzels, yogurt bites, roasted pumpkin seeds, dried apples, etc.

Here’s the rule of thumb: To make this equally fun for the kids and a slightly healthier option than other holiday treats, use a 2:1 ratio of healthy to sweet mix-ins. And I count Craisins as candy so that goes under the sweet category.

I had a handful of kids come up to me and exclaim, “This is the best Chex mix ever!!!”

And again, it wasn’t because I added anything special, but it was all in the presentation. Kids are so easy to fool.

So whether it’s for a holiday party, a treat for your kids, or a simple but fun Christmas goody for the neighbors, this reindeer feed is sure to put a couple of smiles onto a couple of faces. Gauranteed.

What cute holiday treats do you make?
