Gluten Free Honey Mustard Sauce

This Gluten Free Honey Mustard Sauce is a cinch to whip up and tastes surprisingly similar to that tasty Chick-fil-A sauce. I dip, you dip, WE DIP!

There is not much that we miss from the mainland since moving to Hawaii…well, except family, but that is a given. Actually, I guess in some cases moving as far away from your family as you can get may be a good thing. But, we genuinely like both sides of our family (a miracle, right?!), so we don’t find the traveling distance to be ideal.

Other than that teeny tiny (kind of major) glitch in paradise, we find ourselves quite blessed living on the island.

BUT, if I really wanted to be a cry baby, there are a few more minor complaints we have. No air conditioning on the hot, humid days would probably top the list. I’ve already whined about that issue enough though, so I won’t rehash my distaste for being hot. Same with the creepy crawlers. I’ve learned to deal, or at least I’ve learned to yell for Ben really loud until he comes flip flop in hand to the rescue.

Again, no need to focus on past complaints. Moving on.

One thing that I do miss is an occasional trip for fast food to satisfy the need for a plain and simple, no fuss meal. You know those days where you just don’t have one ounce of energy to apply to cooking???

I’ll admit I don’t have those days very often. First of all, I cringe at the thought of my children eating any type of fast food on a regular basis. It’s a real treat in our house. No exaggeration. If you ask Emry where she would like to go for a treat she will squeal, “McDonald’s!!! For french fries!” I can literally count the amount of times in her entire life on two hands that she has eaten at McDonald’s, yet the french fries have forever captured her heart.

Now my second reason for avoiding fast food is the price. I’m a cheap skate, and when I’m spending an outrageous amount of money for crap food, uncontrollable rage begins to build inside my body to the point that I can’t focus on anything else but how much I hate the $5 “sandwich” that is sitting in front of my face. Ugh.

And lastly, I’m a germaphobe and I’m quite certain that most fast food restaurants are not quite up to my standards of cleanliness. I mean I grew up in Houston watching the nightly news report with Marvin Zindler’s segment called “Slime in the Ice Machine” where they called out local restaurants for certain health code violations. Just plain gross.

So, that being said, I am definitely not a fast food fan. But back on the mainland, if there was one place we chose to eat, it was most certainly Chick-fil-A. The facility is clean, the staff is always polite, and their ingredients seem at least closer to “natural” than any other fast food joint I’ve been to. And the topper on the cake is that Braelyn can actually eat a regular old kid’s meal and it is gluten free. We just made sure to order the grilled nuggets and their fries have a dedicated fryer. Perfect.

Oh yeah, and I LOVE their soft serve ice cream. It’s not frothy like all those other fast food ice creams. Yuck.

You can bet that Braelyn has already requested that we eat at Chick-fil-A once we visit the mainland for the summer. Believe me, I’m A-okay fulfilling that request. With the amount of home cooked meals I’ve made here in Hawaii, I’m pretty sure I’ve earned a pass or two for a visit to french fry and nugget land.

And while I’m tagging along I’m most definitely going to be dipping my grilled chicken sandwich in a package of Chick-fil-A sauce. That stuff is soooo good. I limit myself to only one container, but you can bet I lick up every drop.

So it probably wasn’t the best idea that I created my own Gluten Free Honey Mustard Sauce reminiscent of that same Chick-fil-A sauce that now just sits in my fridge tempting me each time I open the door for meal time. I’m telling you, it takes great restraint to refrain from dipping anything and everything.

This sauce is so good I literally want to put in on all the things: sandwiches, chicken, salads, veggies, homemade french fries, you name it. Essentially I’m a honey mustard addict.

Let me tell you why I love this sauce.

  1. It’s sweet.
  2. It’s tangy.
  3. It’s smokey.
  4. It’s creamy.
  5. It’s so darn EASY.

If you have 5 minutes, you have time to make this sauce. I’m telling you, from start to finish, it takes only 5 minutes. The longer you let this sit in the fridge, the more pronounced the flavors will be. It tastes great the second you make it, but if you can think ahead, make it a few hours in advance and it will taste that much better.

I recently made some corn flake chicken tenders with gluten free corn flakes and I almost felt like I was really back at Chick-fil-A stealing a piece of Emry’s battered chicken nuggets while she wasn’t looking. And even if that was the case, I wouldn’t have even felt guilty about it. For reals!

So the next time you find yourself at Chick-fil-A please get yourself an Icedream cone and steal a couple packs of their signature sauce. Or save yourself some dignity and just make your own sauce. Either way is fine with me.

What is your favorite fast food?
